Brent and Amanda met at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, where both were biology instructors.  For nearly two years they merely exchanged friendly hellos in the hallways of the Life Sciences Building.  One day, Brent's students left the lab in a condition that was unacceptable to Amanda, who followed up with a nasty letter to Brent.  Brent replied.  And the flirting began.  Their first date was at Biaggi's Ristorante Italiano.

On a cold and snowy February night, Brent proposed to Amanda in front of his fireplace with a marshmallow stick, bank book, watch, and, of course... a ring.  They were married on May 29, 2008 in Castries, St. Lucia.
